Job Title: Director of Annual Giving
Reports to: Executive Director of St. Mary’s Foundation
Supervises: Foundation staff when involved in receipting, gift acknowledgement and other stewardship activities as assigned.
Summary:
Provides leadership for the annual giving program and for a foundation prospect research process.
Essential Functions:
- Exhibits the values and philosophy of SSM Health Care and St. Mary’s Hospital in daily activities and performs job functions in accordance with hospital policies.
- Coordinates and serves as chief fundraiser for the annual giving program, including employee and physician campaigns, Heart of Gold, memorials and tributes, direct mail appeals and other annual campaigns.
- Supervises the receipting and gift acknowledgement process.
- Plans and develops signature donor recognition events as assigned.
- Engages in direct solicitation of individuals, corporations and foundations as assigned.
- Conducts prospect research for all fundraising staff and manages the prospect process.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Functions:
1. Participates in regular continuing education opportunities, including professional fundraising associations and conferences, in order to enhance and increase optimum fundraising skills and keep abreast of changes in patterns of philanthropy and related issues.
2. Represents the foundation and the hospital at community and regional activities and in service organizations.
3. Supports the foundation by making meaningful financial gifts.
Education, Experience, Certification and Licensure Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s Degree required.
2. Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising for a non-profit entity and/or progressively responsible experience in public relations and communications.

1. Demonstrated ability to be detail oriented.
2. Demonstrated ability as a fundraiser/communicator for a non-profit organization.
3. Excellent writing skills required.
4. Demonstrated ability to initiate, conduct and maintain accurate research data.
5. Demonstrated ability to use technology to enhance work effectiveness.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Should be familiar with non-profit fundraising, particularly annual giving. Well developed written and verbal communication skills are required. Strong organizational skills are a must. Must be detail oriented. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other development database programs preferred.
